The Art of Giving

Our fall session is all about GIVING!  Each session at ArtXscapes focuses not only on learning new skills in art, but we work hard to weave in other valuable life lessons too!  As we approach the holidays, we see a great opportunity for us to explore the importance of giving and the real “joy of giving”.  It seems like giving is an easy and intuitive concept, but for children it is learned just like sharing.  Encouraging the joy of giving to a child is in sense giving them a gift that will last a lifetime.

How is encouraging the joy of giving a gift?
The joy of giving has been studied and shows that it leads to a happier, healthier life. In fact, generosity sets off a series of reactions in your brain that improves mood, reduces stress, boosts overall physical health, builds self-esteem, and even helps you livelonger! The act of giving makes us feel good! The Fall session will have 3 classes – each session we will be creating and making something to give to someone else!

Saturday, November 13th: 9:00 am – 11:30 am

Kickoff gift giving!  This session will focus on “who” the girls want to give to, a family member, a friend, a teacher?  Additionally, we will be working on creating gifts to give to a larger organization (like Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Salvation Army, etc.…)

• We will have up to 5 different gift ideas that can be made in class; the girls can select up to 3 gifts for what they would like to make for their giveaway gifts!

• Gifts we have brainstormed (but we are excited to hear ideas from the girls) include:

○ Painting or watercolor – something they can frame and give away
○ Make jewelry
○ Handmake and decorate a wooden box (possibly for dad, brother or grandpa?)
○ Handmake coaster – build small wood frame and paint ceramic inserts

Saturday, December 4th: 9:00 am – 11:30 am

Saturday, December 11th : 9:00 am – 11:30 am

God has given us the greatest sacrifice — his only Son. In doing so, he left us with a true example of what it means to give. In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ Acts 20:35
